Create Direct Download Links for Google Drive Files

• Make sure your file's visibility in Google Drive is set to "Anyone with the link". If it's set to "Restricted" then only people who are logged in to Google and have been granted access to the file will be able to open the direct link (which probably isn't what you want).


• This only works for uploaded files, not documents created in Google Docs/Sheets/Slides.


• If your file is very large, the direct link may first open a page saying that the file is too large for Google to scan for viruses. That page will have a button to download the file.

Creating Sharing URL

Step 1: Right-click the file you want to create download link for, then select 'Get link'.

Step 2: Now, click on 'Copy link', the link will be copied automatically to your clipboard. This is your Sharing URL.

Note that, for the download link to work for anyone on the internet, you need to select "Anyone with the link" in the dropdown below the textbox containing the link. If not, the download link will only work for people with whom you have shared the file.

Now follow the methods provided below to create Direct Download Link for your Google Drive Files.

Creating Direct Download Link

Method 1. Using Generator

Paste sharing link into the text box and click on "Copy" to create your link.

Method 2. Altering the URL

When you have your Google Drive Sharable Link copied you will need to paste the link somewhere so you can edit it. Your Sharable URL should look something like this:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/10PRMx6rPZ5G1bHP8KdbooFSjIoPoAToL/view?usp=drivesdk

To alter this into a direct link you will need to change quite a bit.

First, you will need to look at the ID number of the file. In the example above, the ID number is highlighted:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/10PRMx6rPZ5G1bHP8KdbooFSjIoPoAToL/view?usp=drivesdk

You will now need to change your URL to the following:

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=YOUR_FILE_ID_HERE

Simply replace YOUR_FILE_ID_HERE with your file id.

Your new URL should look like this:

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=10PRMx6rPZ5G1bHP8KdbooFSjIoPoAToL
